The Plessen Eye Surgery project provided for outfitting a total of 5000 square feet of raw space allocated to Class A Operating Rooms and related support spaces, as well as exam rooms, administrative spaces, and a conference room. The operating facilities were designed to accommodate not only eye surgery, but future surgeries of other types as well. Hallmarks of the project include fitting a highly ambitious program into an exceedingly tight space, rigorous adherence to the facility standards needed for CMS certification, significant interdisciplinary coordination requirements, and the implementation of a highly sophisticated mechanical and electrical infrastructure. It is one of the very few such facilities of its type within the Virgin Islands, and will set the bar very high for any future similar facilities.
