Elysian Resort Rehabilitation

St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands

The damage incurred from the 2017 hurricanes spurred an overhaul of this sprawling existing Club Wyndham resort.  In addition to a refit of Wyndham’s 69 residential units on the property, modifications were required at the resort’s check-in and sales buildings.   Embedded within all of those scopes was a complete ADA analysis and the execution of all of the resulting required upgrades throughout the resort in order to provide accessibility, which were extensive.  Given the difficult topography across the site, configuring and executing the myriad of accessibility upgrades proved to be a significant problem-solving challenge.

Included within the accessibility upgrades was the installation and integration of two new accessibility lifts onto their respective buildings, the gutting and creation of new ADA compliant guest units, a redo of guest accessibility at the check-in and sales buildings, and the recrafting of numerous sidewalk and former stair areas to provide enhanced accessibility.  From the addition of new structure, working with tight clearances, and significant slopes, to garnering HOA approvals, to addressing and integrating aesthetic as well as operational concerns – accomplishing the successful execution of this project proved itself to be an extreme challenge on multiple levels.
