Captain Morgan Visitor Center

St. Croix, the U.S. Virgin Islands

This new 7500 s.f. facility showcases the history of rum-making in the Virgin Islands and the Captain Morgan product line for visitors arriving at the Diageo rum distillery complex. The building features a variety of exhibit display spaces, a bar, lounge, gift shop, and a 30-seat auditorium, designed in association with Orbit Design Studio. Interior spaces have been laid out in a curvilinear pattern so as to facilitate visitor circulation through the facility. With the auditorium at the facility’s heart, sloped seating, careful attention to acoustics, and a state-of-the-art AV system also enhance the visitor experience. The building was designed for LEED compliance, which includes the use of cisterns for potable and graywater storage, high efficiency HVAC and lighting systems, increased ventilation, and window sunscreens, to name a few of the sustainable features.
