Abandoned Facility Retrofit for Distillery

U.S. Virgin Islands

A major U.S. Spirits manufacturer sought to rehabilitate a long abandoned distillery in the U.S. Virgin Islands for the purposes of making a new generation of its product.   The project needed to synthesize, respect, and align an exacting manufacturing process, along with its significant associated utility demands, with the local physical, historical, and cultural environment.   The resulting facility was to also serve as a community and event venue, as well as an upbeat and engaging tourist destination.   Given the advanced deterioration of all of the existing infrastructure, this proved to be a significant challenge within all of these levels.   However, the designed results met all of these challenges and was well-received.
